Conqueror was a heavy tank, fitted with thicker armour and a more powerful 120mm gun than the British Army’s standard Centurion. An unusual feature of Conqueror was the commander’s cupola. It could rotate independently of the rest of the turret and was fitted with its own rangefinder. This allowed the commander to acquire a second target whilst the gunner engaged the first. The gunner could then engage this new target much more quickly than if the commander had to use the tank’s main rangefinder
